National School Nurse Day is May 11; school nurse professional development opportunities announced

School nurses play a critical role in Ohio’s education community and the importance of this role has been even more pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic. National School Nurse Day is May 11. Use this opportunity to thank school nurses for their commitment to the health and well-being of the students in their care.

In a recent message, Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, the director of the Ohio Department of Health, recognized the importance of school nurses and announced several professional development resources for them. Among the opportunities mentioned is the 2022 Virtual Orientation for Nurses New to Ohio Schools. The orientation is for registered nurses who have less than two years of experience working in schools and who have not previously attended an orientation. The three-day orientation will be Aug. 12, 19, and 26.
