Virtually Facilitated Tabletop Exercise
for Skilled Nursing Facilities

See Date and Time Options Below

These facilitated, virtual, tabletop exercises with functional elements will meet the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirement for one annual, full-scale, community-based exercise. The scenario will focus on a cybersecurity threat with information technology failure, a commonly identified hazard in a facility Hazard Vulnerability Analysis. Participants will be encouraged to take action to test a functional element of their plan, such as testing their communications plan (internal or external), completing the Incident Action Plan Quick Start form, or contacting community partners for clarification on their roles and responsibilities. The exercise will be controlled virtually while participants gather in their own skilled nursing facility with their leadership team and invited community partners.

Dates and Registration

Register for Only One Virtual Tabletop Exercise Session.

Only one person from your facility should register for the session. Your nursing home should organize staff and other community organizations to participate in the exercise at your facility but only need one person registered. Registration is limited to 25 facilities per session. Download the event checklist to help keep track of the different steps and events.

Trusted Agent Preparation Meetings

Each virtual tabletop exercise has a preparation meeting before the session for the trusted agent (the person registered). Dates are listed next to each tabletop exercises session date. A calendar appointment for the preparation meeting will be emailed to the person registered from Jennifer Yanke, jyanke@metastar.com

The trusted agent preparation meeting should include one to two main nursing home staff and will provide additional instructions about the exercise and allow the opportunity for questions. Please do not share the information from the trusted agent meeting with your team in order to make the exercise simulation as real as possible. Participants in the training exercise will also need to identify one individual to serve in the role of Evaluator. Additional instructions and documents will be provided to the person serving as Evaluator in preparation for the virtual exercise. You will be required to complete an Executive Summary and an improvement plan following the exercise.
