Palatine recognized nationally for encouraging use of solar energy

Palatine has received a bronze designation from the national SolSmart program for taking the initiative to encourage solar panel installations throughout the community, according to the village.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office, SolSmart uses objective criteria to designate communities that streamline requirements to reduce costs and promote sustainable energy.

According to the village, Palatine has streamlined its permitting process, trained staff on best solar practices and provided educational information regarding solar panel installations.

As a SolSmart Special Recognition Award winner, Palatine joins an exclusive and diverse group of communities across the U.S. who have not only satisfied the minimum requirements, but exceeded the high standards established by the SolSmart Criteria Advisory Committee, the village reported.
