Forestry Commission: new funding schemes

There are several grants and other incentives available for woodland creation, maintenance, management and tree health. Some of these are offered direct by the Forestry Commission and some form part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Two new schemes have been announced:

The Forestry Commission has recently launched the England Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO) which will provide support to landowners, land managers and public to create new woodland, including through natural colonisation, on areas as small as 1 hectare. EWCO replaces the Woodland Carbon Fund, which has now closed for applications.

The Tree Production Innovation Fund (TPIF) is launching soon. It is designed to encourage the development and adoption of new technologies and ways of working that will enhance the quantity, quality and diversity of planting stock available for tree planting in England. There will be £1million in funding made available in 2021/2022. Applicants will be invited to apply for up to £200,000 for projects that address specific challenges that have been identified as barriers to tree production.
