#OnThisDay in 1859, Robert A. Pelham Jr. was born in Petersburg, Virginia. Pelham began a 29-year career at the U.S. Census Bureau in 1900. Among his achievements, he invented a pasting apparatus and tallying machine and co-authored a 1918 publication that used #CensusData to show the “Great Northward Migration” by African Americans.
