Communities as the heart of welcome

Help welcome Afghan allies and refugees who have already lawfully resettled to the U.S.

The Sponsor Circle Program is a community-led initiative that supports everyday Americans in taking on the responsibility of welcoming newcomers to their communities.

The responsibility of welcoming is both serious and rewarding. Sponsors take on tasks like finding initial housing, stocking the pantry, connecting children to school, providing initial income support, and helping adults find employment. Sponsorship brings you and your neighbors closer together while providing opportunities for newcomers starting out in America.

Create a circle of belonging.

  • Did you apply to the Welcome Corps?

If you previously applied to the Welcome Corps, you may be eligible to submit an accelerated Sponsor Circle Program application to be matched with a newcomer who has already arrived in your area and needs community support.

Please note: The Sponsor Circle Program only accepts applications from U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who want to be matched with newcomers who have already arrived and are in need of support. If you applied to sponsor someone you know through the Welcome Corps, you cannot apply to welcome them through the Sponsor Circle Program.

How it works

  • 1. Communities Circle Up

Bring together at least three adults in your community to form a sponsor circle. Complete background checks, fundraise, and prepare to submit your group’s application.

  • 2. Members Make a Plan

Check your knowledge of what is needed to serve as a sponsor circle and prepare a Welcome Plan in advance of welcoming a newcomer. Support in completing your Welcome Plan is available!

  • 3. Circles Welcome Newcomers

Sponsor circles will welcome the newcomer directly into the community and provide tailored support for 90-days. Sponsor circles are supported by resettlement and welcoming experts.
