People in your community may not think about fire safety when they are on vacation. Remind them not to take a vacation from fire safety.
Whether you are staying in a hotel or a short-term rental, remember to review the fire safety plan. Know 2 ways out of every room and the building. Find the smoke alarms, sprinklers and carbon monoxide alarms. If you are in a hotel or motel, count the number of doors between your room and the stairs.
The Hotel and Motel Fire Safety Act of 1990 encourages fire safety in places that offer lodging to the public.
Use the Hotel-Motel National Master List to find hotels, motels and short-term rentals that have at least 1 hard-wired, single station smoke alarm in each guest room and an automatic fire sprinkler system in each guest room for buildings that are 4 or more stories tall.
