Direct funding for nature-related areas and local tourism development

Priority question for written answer P-000952/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Tomasz Frankowski (PPE)
The Commission and MEPs have very often stressed the important role that the local tourism sector and the often underestimated peripheral regions of the European Union will play in the recovery of European tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Given the beauty of the region I represent (Podlasie - Warmia and Mazury), which is home to natural features such as the Bialowieza Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, and the Land of 1000 Lakes, I would like to ask the following questions:
- 1.What direct European funds can Podlaskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie local authorities and foundations apply for in order to revitalise areas associated with nature (such as the Białowieża Primeval Forest or the Augustów Canal)?
- 2.What direct European funds can Podlaskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie local authorities and foundations apply for in order to develop local tourism (e.g. construction of generally accessible non-commercial tourist infrastructure and tourist trails in protected areas to channel tourist traffic, nature trails to promote biodiversity, and adaptation of waterways for nature tourism)?
- 3.Does the Commission plan to renew the call for applications for the LIFE and NATURA programmes for 2021-2027? If so, are there approximate timeframes for such calls?
