2022 is a major year for the Urdd and we want you to be part of our centenary celebrations.

We have a whole host of activities and celebrations planned throughout the year for our members, supporters and friends from all over Wales and beyond.

We did it! Thank you!


We achieved two GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title attempts

• The largest number of videos of people singing the same song uploaded to Twitter in one hour — the current record was 250 — The Urdd and its members uploaded 1176.

• The largest number of videos of people singing the same song uploaded to Facebook in one hour — the current record was 418 — The Urdd and its members uploaded 461.

Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s Centenary Best bits 

Since 1922, the Urdd has provided opportunities for more than 4 million children and young people in Wales to enjoy sporting, cultural, residential, humanitarian and volunteering experiences through the medium of Welsh. Here’s a snap-shot of our best bits.

Urdd WRU Beach Rugby Festival

This year the Urdd and the WRU will return to the beaches of North Wales and Barry Island for #TagArYTraeth! We are looking forward to welcoming primary schools to enjoy playing rugby on the beaches of Colwyn Bay, Anglesey, Porthmadog and Barry Island.

Mistar Urdd Selfie Competition

As part of the Urdd’s cententenary celebrations, the Mistar Urdd Bench is travelling to a variety of locations across Wales and even to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham! The timetable for the visits and competition information is available here.

Urdd Birthday matches against the Crawshays

As well as the Urdd, the Crawshays are also turning 100 years old this year, so to celebrate the two organisations will be playing against each other in a match at Eirias Park Stadium, Colwyn Bay. Entry to the games will be free and there will be an opportunity for children and young people to enjoy rugby activities which are hosted by the Urdd Sports team and the WRU. Here are the game times:

  • Boys under 18 Urdd v Crawshays – 13:00
  • Girls under 18 Urdd v Crawshays – 15:15
  • RBC v North Wales’s Best – 17:30
