Today, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) at the White House released a statement outlining the Biden-Harris Administration’s priorities for their first year in office. These important priorities range from expanding evidence-based approaches to improve access to prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction services, reducing the supply of illicit substances, and efforts to address racial equality in drug policy and health care.
Specifically, these priorities include:
- Expanding access to evidence-based treatment;
- Advancing racial equity issues in our approach to drug policy;
- Enhancing evidence-based harm reduction efforts;
- Supporting evidence-based prevention efforts to reduce youth substance use;
- Reducing the supply of illicit substances;
- Advancing recovery-ready workplaces and expanding the addiction workforce; and
- Expanding access to recovery support services.
“Addiction Policy Forum commends the Biden Administration for this comprehensive plan to address our nation’s addiction crisis early on in its term,” says Jessica Hulsey, President and CEO of Addiction Policy Forum. “With our country experiencing the highest number of drug overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period, the addiction crisis continues to be an urgent public health problem that must be addressed. We are pleased that the new Administration is prioritizing expanding evidence-based services and bolstering racial equality in healthcare to improve outcomes for those impacted by substance use disorders.”
