When a community applies for FEMA funding — such as Public Assistance, Hazard Mitigation Assistance or Preparedness Grants — potential impacts to the environment and cultural resources must be considered.

One year after the major disaster declaration for the March 24-25, 2023, severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes, more than $84.9 million in state and federal assistance has been provided to survivors in Mississippi. Funds include grants from FEMA and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) through the Individual Assistance and Public Assistance Programs, and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
