Event

What is the event?

A free zoom workshop for parents and carers of children with Autism.

People on the autistic spectrum often use the strategy of masking or camouflaging when responding to the demands of varying contexts. It is a coping strategy frequently used by autistic children and young people, particularly in the school setting, but can cause them significant stress.

This workshop will help you to understand and recognise the signs and impact of masking, and look at ways to help. The topics we will cover include:- What is masking and why autistic people mask The impact of masking Exploring neurodiversity as this is relevant to co-occurring diagnoses Strategies that will help children and young people to 'unmask' Anxiety in autism and how to reduce the perceived need for masking Strategies parents and carers and schools can use to help autistic children and young people feel comfortable enough NOT to mask.
