Updates

  • Great to see work on a new route for active travel between Newton Abbot and Ogwell underway:

The first phase of works to create a safe and convenient walking, cycling and wheeling route between Newton Abbot and Ogwell is well underway and due to be completed on time (weather dependent), within the next two weeks. These works include a new section of road and fencing beside the tennis courts in Bakers Park, which is now complete, and road improvements at Steppes Meadow. Steppes Meadow road works are well underway, including the sub-base layer replacement for a much improved condition. Subject to further funding and approvals, phase two will include: - extending the walking, wheeling and cycling route to Beverley Way - creating a formal road crossing to link over Totnes Road into Bradley Road - creating a link into Ogwell via an off-road path into Buntings Close. Once both phases are complete, the new route will increase opportunities for families to be active, enjoy nature and reduce their car journeys by walking or riding a bicycle to school or work, and provide better access to the town centre’s facilities.

  • Devon Air Ambulance is a proud signatory of the Devon Climate Declaration. As a socially responsible organisation, Devon Air Ambulance has been proactive for many years in making its operations as environmentally friendly as possible. Since signing the Climate Declaration in 2021, they have been working with employees and external consultants to survey and improve their environmental impact. A practical set of objectives has been set to cover areas such as improving building insulation, reducing transport emissions, favouring investments with strong environmental credentials, reducing waste, and working with green suppliers. Recent actions by Devon Air Ambulance include installing EV charging points at their airbases and progressive transitioning from petrol-engine cars to electric vehicles. These tangible steps demonstrate the organisation's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. Devon Air Ambulance Trust CEO Helena Holt, said:  “We take very seriously our commitment towards Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship, as outlined in our strategic plan.  It is essential that we play our part in working towards achieving the 45% drop in carbon emissions required globally by 2030, if we are to reach net-zero by 2050 to avoid the worst effects of climate change by keeping warming below 1.5 degrees.  As a charity that cares for the health of those we serve, we recognise that our ability to deliver our service effectively is very much subject to the impact of climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse. We are fortunate, therefore, to have a highly-motivated workforce that is entirely behind the strategic goals set out to achieve this.” We are delighted that environmentally conscious organisations have supported our Climate Declaration as we work to deliver the Devon Carbon Plan.
