Richland Wash. — The Hanford Site reports the footprint of its Plutonium Uranium Extraction Plant is continuing to shrink.
Leaders at the site say contractor crews began demolishing the Plant's 211-A Chemical Make-Up Tank Farm and Pumphouse.
We're told the tanks farms contain twenty tanks, which used to house a variety of chemicals used during the plant's process to extract plutonium from irradiated uranium fuel rods.
It was built back in the 1950s and operated as the largest and most advanced chemical separation plant on the site until its closure in 1988.
