Culture is safe (La cultura es segura #culturasegura )

Question for written answer  E-000527/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138

Recently, directors of European theatres signed a plea for culture in the hopes of getting back to work soon. Their plea is by no means a request to relax the current measures. The protocols and expertise to resume their activities safely already exist. Efforts to ensure that the teams work and rehearse safely, to guide streams of visitors and to maintain a safe distance in theatres are already in place.

Although great disparities exist between European countries with regard to safety measures, culture is essential everywhere.

Considering that the cultural and creative sectors are among those most severely affected by the pandemic, the Spanish Government has launched the campaign ‘La cultura es segura’ #culturasegura (Culture is safe) to support culture. The Spanish experience proves that theatres and venues are not a focus of contagion, as long as they respect the protocols in place. It also proves that the campaign provides theatres and venues, as well as their public, with much-needed relief in these exceptionally difficult times.

Does the Commission plan to deliver guidelines on a harmonised vision about what culture is, along with guidelines supporting culture and the cultural and creative sectors?
