Hello, neighbors! The property tax saving exemptions applications for the 2023 tax year are now available online. Exemptions are savings that contribute to lowering a homeowner’s property tax bill.

Here are some key things that homeowners should know when applying for exemptions:
•The Homeowner, Senior, and Persons with Disabilities Exemptions are automatically renewed. Postcards will be mailed to households confirming that no action is needed.

•Homeowners must reapply for the Veterans with Disabilities and Low-Income Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze (the “Senior Freeze”) Exemptions. Seniors and veterans that need to reapply will be mailed application booklets.

•It is recommended to file online so you can
✓have a record of the filing
✓view the application status
✓if denied for missing documents, view documents needed and submit

Hi Neighbors! Have you heard about Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt (CCLAHD)? This new initiative helps residents resolve eviction, foreclosure, consumer debt, and tax deed issues via free legal aid, mediation services, and connections to other resources including rental assistance for tenants and landlords dealing with evictions, property owners who are behind on their mortgage payments or property taxes, and creditors and debtors with issues related to consumer debt. The services are provided for free for residents of Cook County and are being offered to:
• tenants facing eviction,
• landlords dealing with an eviction,
• debtors being sued for unpaid bills,
• creditors wishing to collect their unpaid debts, and
• property owners who have fallen behind on property taxes or mortgage payments.

If you have been going through your closet recently and have a growing pile of new or gently used clothing items to donate, you are invited to drop them off at the Cook County Commissioner Britton's District 14 office located at 1812 Waukegan Road. Donation will benefit WINGS, a nonprofit that works with domestic abuse survivors. Donations can be dropped off between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, and Tuesday, September 29.
