PacIOOS is currently developing a 5-year proposal to the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) in response to the Notice of Funding Opportunity “FY 2021 Implementation of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System” (NOAA-NOS-IOOS-2021-2006475), issued in May 2020. All final proposals are due on December 31, 2020. The 5-year award spans from 2021-2026.
Guided by the PacIOOS Strategic Framework, the proposal will be developed with the current thematic areas in mind (please see below for a full list). PacIOOS is also considering new and emerging coastal and ocean observing areas of interest and technologies for this upcoming funding cycle.
Throughout the summer, PacIOOS reached out to more than 500 partners individually across the Pacific Islands region, and solicited feedback through newsletters and listservs to collect input on coastal and ocean observing needs, priorities, and potential collaborations. We greatly appreciate the feedback, ideas, and thoughts that you shared with us. In total, we received 370 comments that were carefully sorted for consideration in the proposal. While PacIOOS may not be able to address all suggestions, the information you provided helps to shape PacIOOS’ future direction. Concurrently, we are also developing a 10-Year Outlook that allows us, along with our partners and stakeholder, to envision the upcoming 5-10 years. The feedback you provided helps us to help you in the long run.
