Two Devon churches have been awarded grants from the National Churches Trust: the church of St John the Baptist in Hatherleigh has received £30,000 and the church of St Philip and St James in Ilfracombe has received £10,000. These Cornerstone Grants will help fund urgent repairs to the tower of each church as well as other works.

The National Churches Trust provides grants for church buildings across the UK. Applications are accepted for works to church buildings which are open (or plan to re-open) for regular Christian worship.
The following grants are available:
Cornerstone Grants – between £10,000 and £50,000 towards the cost of urgent structural repair projects costed at more than £100,000. The Trust will also consider projects that introduce kitchens and accessible toilets to enable increased community use, costed at more than £30,000.
Gateway Grants – between £3,000 and £10,000 towards project development and investigative work to support churches preparing for a major project, and in developing their project to the point at which they can approach a major grant funder.
Foundation Grants – between £500 and £5,000 towards urgent maintenance works and small repairs identified as high priority within a recent Quinquennial Inspection or Survey Report. Also, small investigative works and surveys. Project costs should not exceed £10,000.
Preventative Maintenance Micro Grants – up to £500 for small maintenance works with total costs up to £1,000
Grants can cover up to 50% of costs – match funding must be found from other sources.
Churches can also apply via the National Churches Trust for a Wolfson Foundation grant of up to £10,000 towards essential fabric repairs.
