LGA responds to Online Media Literacy Strategy

"This timely strategy is not only an important step towards ensuring all UK residents can navigate the online world safely but recognising the role that libraries can play in achieving this."

Responding to the Government’s new Online Media Literacy Strategy, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Chairman of the LGA’s Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, said: “The past year has emphasised the importance of being able to navigate and understand rapidly changing information online.

“For many communities, libraries remain one of the most trusted places and sources of information that many people can rely on for help, whether it be accessing wellbeing support, services or developing their digital media skills through online courses. This has been highlighted through the work that libraries have done to adapt quickly and provide services digitally and support vulnerable residents ensuring they that are not left behind.

“This timely strategy is not only an important step towards ensuring all UK residents can navigate the online world safely but recognising the role that libraries can play in achieving this.”
