Check Your Student’s Eligibility
Indiana Learns is a statewide enrichment grant program supporting reading and math growth for eligible young Hoosiers by funding tutoring in a variety of settings.
Eligible families, demonstrating both financial and academic need, can access $1,000 to spend with approved providers on high-dosage tutoring and approved out-of-school academic programs for their students.
All qualifying students will have access to at least $1,000 to apply toward approved in-person or virtual tutoring opportunities listed in the online platform. Examples of qualifying expenses include: private tutoring, small group tutoring, or academic-focused camps held during school breaks. Once students have expended their initial $1,000 award, account funds may be replenished with an additional $1,000.
- Student Qualifications
To qualify for an Indiana Learns tutoring grant, a student must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Student resides in Indiana
- Student is currently enrolled in an Indiana school as a third through eighth grade student
- Student qualifies for the federal free or reduced lunch program in 2022 or no later than October 2023
- Student scored below proficiency in either Mathematics or English/Language Arts on ILEARN in 2022.
Note: Students achieving approaching proficiency will not qualify.
Interested families can visit IndianaLearns.org to check if their student is eligible. Families will need to enter a student’s Student Test Number (STN) and date of birth to verify eligibility. Parents can locate their student’s STN on their ILEARN score report or by reaching out to their school’s registrar or office staff. If eligible, families will immediately be able to view available funds and schedule approved services after viewing multiple Learning Partners that can provide service in their area.

- Learning Partner Qualifications
To apply to become an approved learning partner, organizations must first verify that they meet the requirements listed below. To begin the application process, please click here.
- Provide services outside of regular school hours
- Serve Indiana Learns student population; these students:
- Live in Indiana
- Attend school in Indiana as a third through eighth grade student
- Qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program in 2022 or no later than October 2023
- Scored below proficient in Math or English/Language Arts on the 2022 ILEARN assessment
- Utilize highly qualified tutors as defined by the Indiana Department of Education to provide services. The tutors will meet one of the following requirements:
- Two years of college experience
- Two year college degree
- Passed the Parapro assessment (within the first year of employment)
- One year or 1,000 hours of previous employment experience in a school or working with children
- Passed annual school-level evaluations
- Completed 48 credit hours of college level classes
- Has Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
- Completed LE required professional development modules/training
- Completed other requirements-schools may request approval from IDOE
- Employ licensed or retired teachers as the service supervisor. The licensed teacher will have the responsibility of supervising all non-licensed teachers at all times during which services are provided
- Maintain 1:4 tutor/student ratio
- Benchmark and communicate progress on a weekly basis
- Conduct scheduling of student services and billing for services rendered within the Indiana Learns student portal
- Deliver services on a reimbursement basis (the program will only pay for services rendered)
- Provide a minimum dosage of tutoring of 60 minutes per week (minimum of 30 minutes per session)
- Provide evidence of science of reading training for all reading tutors
- Keep prices to no more than $100 per student/per session
