Project AWARE - New Branding!
Spotlight
Perry Central Community Schools is a Project AWARE grantee, starting their second year of increasing awareness, capacity, early identification/intervention, and student/family access to mental health supports through school and community-based initiatives. They have two MTSS teams: (1) a corporation-level team which meets monthly to create systems and policies that support building-level work, and (2) building-level MTSS teams which meet at least once/month to review and plan tiered supports for academics, SEL, and behavior. Their work is highlighted within IDOE’s Google folder of MTSS Promising Practices. Check out the resources here.

*Key Note: “Are You My School NURSE” --- Dr. Jane Chevako
Dr. Jane starts as a zebra, a reminder of the sharp contrast of how a school nurse’s job is NOT black and white.
She reviews what makes school nurses the super heroes for our students. Taking care of others is a priority of all healthcare providers, who ironically often fail to take care of themselves. Dr. Jane will emphasize many ways in which we need to make ourselves a priority. She finishes as a student, thankful for the multitude of things that school nurses do every day! She wants each school nurse to be proud of their work, energized and motivated to be the best school nurse they can be.
Other agenda items include: Vaping, Human Trafficking, GI, Ostomy, Incontinence, Legislative updates, Hots, Snots, and Trots, Seizures, School Safety and many Vendors to visit!
