PORT ANGELES – Para educators in the Port Angeles School District will go on strike Monday.

In response, the school district has cancelled school for Monday.

The union and district were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract over the weekend. The para educators have been seeking a 3.7 percent cost of living increase equal to what teachers received earlier. The district says it doesn’t have the money to pay for that request.

The teachers union says it will honor the picket lines and teacher will not show up for work on Monday.

Another bargaining session is set for Monday morning.

The district says it will continue to offer meal service for all students. Meals can be picked up from the parking lots at of PASD Elementary Schools at Dry Creek and Hamilton: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m, Jefferson, Franklin, and Roosevelt: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Meals are available to all students in all grades, and no preorders are necessary.

Athletic practices, events and associated transportation will continue as typically scheduled.
