Vaccine contracts – coronavirus pandemic
30.3.2021
Priority question for written answer P-001750/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Tamás Deutsch (NI)
As third wave of the coronavirus pandemic progresses, the European Union is lagging far behind in terms of vaccination compared to its competitors.
The slow vaccine roll‑out is costing more lives and deepening the economic crisis. The Commission, meanwhile, has not explained the causes of the delays, has not published the EU’s purchase and supply contracts and has not yet named those responsible for the vaccine failure.
I would therefore like to ask the Commission the following questions:
- 1.When will it publish the EU’s vaccine purchase and supply contracts?
- 2.In view of the current pace of vaccine deliveries, when is the EU expected to reach the 70 % threshold of vaccinated residents?
- 3.Why did the Commission conclude the EU’s vaccine supply contracts so late and on such unfavourable terms, and who in the Commission is responsible for the vaccine failure?
