The European Trust Fund for Colombia, implementation of the Peace Agreement and El Espectador’s Colombia 2020 project

Although there is no formal EU joint programming in Colombia, the European Trust Fund for Colombia is effectively a joint programme for peace, democracy and human rights in that country. The Commission has brought a proposal for a 12-month extension – until 31 December 2021 – before Parliament’s Development Committee.

With that in mind:

• 1.How is the Commission ensuring that the most vulnerable regions and rural areas of the country are included in the programme?
• 2.Why has support for El Espectador’s Colombia 2020 project on monitoring the implementation of the Peace Agreement been suspended by the Commission?
• 3.Given the dangers journalists involved in the Colombia 2020 project are exposed to, how will the Commission be monitoring the situation to ensure they are able to conduct their work in a safe environment?
