Thank you to all the volunteers that came out to support Give Together, our family volunteer event honoring MLK Day. Together we accomplished many great projects for local non-profits including:

  • Packed 400 Student Emergency Preparedness Kits for Fairfax County’s Department of Emergency Response.
  • Made 400 Valentine Cupcakes (with warm socks) with Kids Give Back that were given to several area nonprofits to support elder care.
  • Made 300 Power Packs for Food for Others and delivered 1,371 lbs of food in total (with our food drive) to them following the event.
  • Crafted 60 no sew fleece blankets for Capital Caring Health and made door hangers for their long-term care residents.
  • Made birdfeeders to support local bird population.
  • Made treat bags, snuffle matts and blankets to support Fairfax County Animal Shelters.
  • Made caring kits to support the Pozez Jewish Community Center’s Horizon Program which supports kids with cancer.
  • Made 600 Valentines for Meals on Wheels recipients.

Thanks to our non-profit partners, our supporters and to YOU in the community for showing up to serve and to pass along the spirit of service to the next generation.

Community Conversation

We will kick-off our Weekend of Service on Wednesday, January 10th with a Community Conversation on Racial Equity entitled, "So You Think You Know Racial Equity: Practices and Competencies to Build Stamina and Strength." This conversation will be led by Natasha A. Harrison, an award-winning racial equity and justice practitioner and will include a panel discussion with local leaders.

Give Together, A family-friendly Volunteer Day

Monday, January 15, families (children ages 5-12) come together to complete service projects and to learn about the work of several nonprofit serving the community. Projects support a variety of mission areas including environmental stewardship, food insecurity, caring kits, animal welfare and more. Youth will receive passports that are stamped as projects are completed and there's also a reflection on Dr. King's legacy of service.

Teen Volunteer Event Helpers

Teens play an important role in supporting this day as Event Helpers supporting families complete service projects and helping with event logistics. Teens must be between the ages of 13-18 to participate. Event Helpers are expected to participate independently and must register.
