Rent restrictions get a remodel
Plus crowded agendas ahead of the fiscal cutoff and EV wars heat up
Today marks the first fiscal committee cutoff. Many bills that a great many people care about will likely expire. Some will be deemed too expensive. Others will simply lack the votes in Senate Ways & Means, House Appropriations, or House Finance. And some will simply be victims of the Legislature’s harsh time-based winnowing process. More on some of the potential victims and survivors in a bit.
But first, a development in the rent-restriction drama:
Proverbial storm clouds gathered over the House Appropriations Committee on Saturday during a grueling 10-hour bill-o-rama during which House Bill 2114, this year’s bid to rein in rent hikes, got a rewrite. You’ll remember that the Senate version of this proposal died in dramatic fashion last week.
