EU contributions to Turkey

Question for written answer  E-006578/2020
to the Commission
Rule 138
Jean-Paul Garraud (ID), Nicolas Bay (ID)

Turkey’s behaviour towards its geographical neighbours, Europe and the Mediterranean basin as a whole, has become intolerable. Its scheming and meddling in the Syrian and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts demonstrate, if further demonstration was necessary, Turkey’s desire to dominate and extend its influence by any means, legal and illegal.

Added to this are the declarations, insults and threats towards EU countries by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and members of his government.

Despite this, Turkey is apparently still the third country receiving the most EU aid, totalling some EUR 50 billion to date.

Can the Commission:

State precisely the amounts that have already been paid or are expected to be paid to Turkey under the Euro-Mediterranean partnership programme, the instrument for pre-accession assistance and the EU-Turkey agreement, as well as the support provided by the European Investment Bank since 1965?

Specify the total financial extent of the sanctions recently imposed by the EU on Turkey?

Indicate whether Turkey is still the third country that receives the most financial aid from the EU?
