Kick off Placer County’s bountiful citrus season with the Mountain Mandarin Festival happening Nov. 19-21 at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn. The festival offers visitors tasty citrus, from fresh fruit samples offered by local growers, products such as mandarin-infused olive oils, balsamic vinegar, barbecue sauces, jams, jellies and much more. Nov. 20 is National Adoption Day

Across the country, National Adoption Day is celebrated every Nov. 20, when adoptive families are recognized, celebrated and some foster families finalize the adoption process. Each year, Placer has an average of 150 children in foster care. This Adoption Day, 10 Placer families will finalize their adoptions. Meet some of the families

Updated county disaster mitigation plan

What can we do about increasing natural disaster risks in Placer County? There’s a plan for that. From forest health to power shutoffs, to drought preparation, our updated Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, approved this week by our Board of Supervisors, looks at ways agencies throughout the county are making smart investments to reduce risk to lives and property and avoid even higher costs for disaster recovery.

To preserve critical infrastructure that serves all, including hospitals, on Aug. 25, Placer County Public Health issued a warning advising residents regardless of vaccination status to use high-quality masks in indoor public settings to protect against the Delta variant.
