OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Washington State Fire Marshal approved state fire mobilization for Kittitas, Yakima and Klickitat Counties in preparation for possible wildfires this week.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization on Tuesday at 5 p.m., which was requested in response to hot, dry and windy conditions across the Lower Columbia Region.
State fire resources are being moved into position in Yakima County and are expected to remain in place until Friday, July 12 to help with any fires that start during the Red Flag Warning that is in effect.
According to Yakima County Fire District #5, the fire resources will come into Yakima County on July 10 and will remain in place through Friday, July 12.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is currently activated at Level 2, partial activation, to coordinate the mobilization and pre-position resources.
As part of the State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan, the Fire Protection Bureau coordinates dispatch and oversight of resources throughout the mobilization. More information on the plan can be found online.
According to YCFD5, almost 20,000 acres have already burned in Yakima County this fire season.
