Making digital green certificates accessible

Question for written answer  E-001503/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Rosa Estaràs Ferragut (PPE)

Digital green certificates, which have been proposed to facilitate mobility during the COVID-19 pandemic, must be made accessible to people with disabilities.

In particular, they must be designed from the outset with universal accessibility in mind, so that persons with disabilities and the elderly can use them without any restrictions or limitations.

During the pandemic, people with disabilities have suffered across Europe from a lack of accessibility to many places and services, which has negatively affected their right to information, to protect their health and to non-discriminatory and quality public services. This cannot be allowed to happen again with digital green certificates, which is why universal accessibility must be ensured from the very design stage.

How does the Commission intend to ensure that digital green certificates are made accessible to people with disabilities and the elderly?
