Rosarno: an EU project which has never been officially approved
29.1.2021
Question for written answer E-000578/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Laura Ferrara (NI)
The Calabria Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020, with a EUR 3.08 million budget, EUR 2.31 million of which from the European Regional Development Fund, supported a project to build apartments for migrant workers from the San Ferdinando refugee camp in Rosarno (Reggio Calabria).
Subsequently, at the initiative of the Municipality of Rosarno, it was requested that the new apartments should also be allocated to local families at risk of social exclusion, whose presence would contribute to the integration of migrants on these housing estates.
However, the housing units built in 2017 are not yet available for use by the final beneficiaries of the measure, since they have never been officially inspected and approved.
In view of this, can the Commission say:
- 1.whether it is aware of this case;
- 2.what action it intends to take to ensure that the housing can at last be used by the final beneficiaries of the project: migrants and the local population;
- 3.whether it will alert OLAF in order to determine whether any fraud might have been committed, or whether anyone can be held liable with regard to the use of EU funds for this measure?
