Washington has a robust wolf population, and wolves no longer are an endangered or threatened species, according to state Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists.

OLYMPIA — Washington’s new count confirms wolves are thriving and should be taken off the state’s endangered species list, Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Kelly Susewind said Tuesday.

Speaking to the department’s Wolf Advisory Group, Susewind called wolf recovery a tremendous biological success, while acknowledging ranchers pay a cost and do “more than their fair share” to aid recovery.
