A 63-year-old woman crashed into a Washington State Patrol vehicle Friday afternoon in a work zone on southbound Interstate 5, injuring herself and a trooper.

Trooper Shane Kesler was assisting the Washington State Department of Transportation with a rolling slow down of the two left lanes of traffic near Milepost 9. Katherine Dulay-Wilson, driving a 2024 Kia Soul, passed several WSDOT warning signs advising of the left-lane closures and entered the work zone, according to a State Patrol crash memo.

Dulay-Wilson swerved to the left to avoid crashing into slowing traffic and struck the State Patrol car around 1 p.m., according to the crash memo.

Neither Dulay-Wilson nor Kesler was taken to the hospital. Both were wearing seat belts. Troopers said they do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, according to the crash memo.

Dulay-Wilson, no city of residence listed, is facing an allegation of second-degree negligent driving, the crash memo states.
