Orin Smith Elementary students visit state Capitol

Students and teachers from Orin C. Smith Elementary School in Chehalis met with Rep. Peter Abbarno, Tuesday, Jan. 16, during a tour of the state Capitol.

The 20th District lawmaker discussed the legislative session, how a bill becomes a law and other civics-related issues with the third through fifth grade students.

“I try to never miss an opportunity to meet with and engage students when they visit our state Capitol,” Abbarno, R-Centralia, said in a press release. “Capitol tours are such a great learning opportunity for young people to get to see how their state Legislature works up-close and in-person as a supplement to the civics education they get at school. We had a great time talking about how this place works, and I hope they all return someday to participate in the House page program.”
