SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: I. Background Atherectomy is an interventional procedure performed to remove atherosclerotic plaque from diseased arteries. FDA has developed this guidance for members of industry who submit and FDA staff who review premarket submissions for atherectomy devices used in the peripheral vasculature. This guidance is intended to provide recommendations for information to include in premarket notifications (510(k)) for peripheral vascular atherectomy devices (e.g., descriptive characteristics, labeling, biocompatibility, sterility, non-clinical, animal, and clinical performance testing). FDA considered comments received on the draft guidance that appeared in the Federal Register of July 27, 2018 (83 FR 35658). FDA revised the guidance as appropriate in response to the comments. II. Significance of Guidance This guidance is being issued consistent with FDA's good guidance practices regulation (21 CFR 10.115). The guidance represents the current thinking of FDA on ``Peripheral [[Page 8297]] Vascular Atherectomy Devices--Premarket Notification [510(k)] Submissions.'' It does not establish any rights for any person and is not binding on FDA or the public. You can use an alternative approach if it satisfies the requirements of the applicable statutes and regulations. III.
