Need for e-government in the EU

I believe that the time has come to transform the EU into an e-government model.

Given our experience of the pandemic and our knowledge of the huge advantages of e-government, I believe that the entire EU governance system needs to be transformed into a modern, electronic and digital system.

I suggest that all paper forms be phased out and that everything be processed electronically, including citizens’ communications with the EU institutions, all applications for programmes and funding, and all work done by staff and officials.

This will lead to a sharp reduction in red tape for the EU, Member States and citizens, and result in huge savings.

In the light of the above:

• 1.How and when does the Commission plan to implement e-Government in the EU?
• 2.How will it cut red tape in the EU?
