Wine surplus

Question for written answer  E-001460/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
César Luena (S&D)

The coronavirus crisis has had a significant impact on the European agricultural sector and, in particular, on the wine sector, which has also been heavily affected by other developments such as the (recently suspended) imposition of export duties, an increased surplus in wine, and a bumper harvest. This has led to a sharp drop in demand, one that is jeopardising the sector’s activity and that the measures taken thus far have failed to offset.

What extraordinary action does the Commission intend to take under the CAP and the sector-specific programme to support the wine sector and reduce the surplus?
