New restrictions at Germany’s borders
23.2.2021
Question for written answer E-001060/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Sandro Gozi (Renew)
Germany has extended until early March the controls introduced at its borders with Austrian Tyrol and Czechia to counter the spread of coronavirus variants. These drastic restrictions are unjustified, in particular as borders are clearly an irrelevance where the virus is concerned. These measures therefore run counter to the principle of the free movement of persons, which is a cornerstone of Union citizenship.
- 1.Does the Commission intend to launch infringement proceedings against Germany?
- 2.What will it do to discourage other Member States from taking such disproportionate measures?
