Support for the fisheries sector under the Brexit Adjustment Reserve

On 25 December 2020, the Commission presented a proposal for a regulation establishing the Brexit Adjustment Reserve. Article 5(1)(c) of that proposal sets out that the reserve may be used to cover ‘measures to support businesses and local communities dependent on fishing activities in the United Kingdom waters’.

The Portuguese Government has stated that Portugal is not eligible. However, according to the Commission working document on Member States' allocations under the Brexit Adjustment Reserve in the year 2021 in the form of pre-financing[1], Portugal is entitled to EUR 3.00 for fish caught in UK waters (as set out in Annex 1a and 1b).
