List of third countries cooperating or not cooperating in the return and readmission of illegal migrants

In its assessment of cooperation on readmission by third countries[1], the Commission reports that there is good cooperation with one third of partner countries, and an average level of cooperation with another third, while improvements are needed in the case of the final third. The Commission does not name the countries concerned.

If the Commission has been able to quantify third countries on the basis of their level of cooperation, then it also knows which countries are refusing to cooperate and hence to take back those of their nationals who are not entitled to remain in Europe.

Not having this information may well distort work by the Council of the European Union on use of the visa policy as a means of exerting pressure on recalcitrant third countries.

More shocking still is the fact that this text, published on 10 February 2021, was classified as restricted at the same time as, during its part-session on the very same day, Parliament adopted a report on public access to documents.
