The Commission has announced the introduction of a digital vaccination passport by summer 2021. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in the press conference following the EU COVID-19 summit that Google and Apple were already working on solutions for the WTO but that the Commission was seeking a solution within the EU, without the involvement of US companies.

• 1.What technical requirements will the passport have to satisfy?
• 2.With which companies, established within and outside the Union, which might be involved in the technological implementation of the passport has the Commission held talks – listed chronologically since the outbreak of the pandemic – and with which companies is it planning to hold further talks?
• 3.Can the Commission guarantee that sensitive data on Union citizens will not be fall into the hands of companies or, in the case of journeys outside the Union, into the hands of authorities in non-EU countries as a result of the digital vaccination passport?
