to the Commission
Rule 138

According to the reply of the Mauritanian Government[1] to the list of issues identified for follow-up by the UN Committee Against Torture in relation to the second periodic report of Mauritania under Article 19 of the Convention Against Torture:
‘73. Refugees and migrants are not detained in prisons. There are two temporary holding centres for migrants in an irregular situation in Nouakchott and Nouadhibou. The centres are in line with the standards of the European Union, which funds them’.
- 1.Can the Commission inform us, how much funding has the EU given to Mauritania for ‘temporary holding centres for migrants’, since 2014 (i.e. migrant detention centres), and under which financial instruments?
- 2.Has the Comission, at any time before or after approving funding, assessed the human rights risks related to funding migrant detention centres in Mauritania?
- 3.How does the Commission ensure that migrant detention centres in Mauritania are ‘in line with the standards of the EU’?
