Combating domestic violence

Question for written answer  E-001969/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Ioan-Rareş Bogdan (PPE)

There has been a significant rise in cases of domestic violence in recent years and the vast number of cases has triggered a response from the authorities in many Member States, which have raised the alarm over the seriousness of this issue.

The victims of this type of abuse are very often unaware of their rights and of the options available to them, such as specialised care centres for people experiencing this kind of trauma. Although a number of programmes and even applications exist to provide legal or psychological advice, it is imperative that steps continue to be taken to avoid a further escalation of aggressive behaviour towards women.

Is the Commission considering introducing and implementing more comprehensive measures to prevent and combat violence against women?

What concrete actions will it take to ensure that cases of violence against women in the Member States are suitably reported by the victims and properly addressed by the authorities?
