Need for immediate EU social and economic support

Question for written answer  E-000310/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Lefteris Christoforou (PPE)

For a year now, the tragic health consequences of the pandemic have been accompanied by a devastating social and economic fallout, from which

Europe and its citizens are also suffering.

Thousands of jobs are being lost every day and thousands of businesses forced to close.

The EU has rightly decided to set up a EUR 750 billion recovery fund. Unfortunately, however, assistance from this fund will reach Member States too late in the day, reducing its effectiveness.

My question to the European Commission is essentially what measures can therefore be taken to stem the daily flood of job losses and business closures.

I believe that what the market needs, today and not tomorrow, is fresh injections of cash and working capital, along with social and business support programmes.

Does the Commission have a suitable plan for the immediate rescue of workers and businesses, in addition to the recovery fund?
