The diversity of the tourism sector means that it is impossible for the EU to manage it successfully. A major characteristic of the EU is the tremendous variety within its borders.

• 1.To what extent should it be possible for the variety inherent in the different Member States to be promoted in a centralised way?
• 2.How is the transfer of responsibilities to the EU in the field of tourism compatible with the principle of subsidiarity?
