Environmental protection is the responsibility of all EU citizens. For this to be successfully achieved, environmental policies need to be more closely linked to education and employment policies.

It should not be forgotten that education plays a fundamental role in raising awareness and shaping people’s attitudes and behaviour in response to this challenge. Schools make a vital contribution to keeping pupils informed and educating future citizens to adopt a responsible attitude, ensuring that they fully understand the causes and consequences of environmental problems. Moreover, raising awareness among adults in this field is important for the entire economy.

What measures will the Commission take to step up environmental awareness at every level, from early childhood schooling to adult education?
