Puede provocar lo siguiente. La fibrilación auricular es un trastorno del ritmo cardíaco. Provoca latidos irregulares y caóticos del corazón que pueden causar un accidente cerebrovascular. La fibrilación auricular que se trasmite de padres a hijos (hereditaria) se llama fibrilación auricular familiar.
No se sabe cuántas personas tienen fibrilación auricular familiar. Sin embargo, los investigadores han identificado cambios genéticos asociados con la afección.
Normalmente, hay factores de riesgo comunes que causan fibrilación auricular. Por ejemplo, el riesgo de desarrollar fibrilación auricular aumenta con la edad. Otros factores que aumentan las posibilidades de desarrollar fibrilación auricular son los siguientes:
- Diabetes
- Enfermedad de las válvulas cardíacas
- Consumo excesivo de alcohol
- Presión arterial alta
- Sexo masculino
- Obesidad
Pero aproximadamente 3 de cada 10 personas con fibrilación auricular no presentan factores de riesgo identificables. Los investigadores creen que es posible que los cambios genéticos influyan en estos casos. Si tienes fibrilación auricular familiar, puede que la contraigas más temprano en la vida que aquellos sin antecedentes familiares de la afección.
Es importante entender la genética de la fibrilación auricular. De esa manera, es posible hacer exámenes de detección para identificar y tratar mejor a quienes corren el riesgo de tener fibrilación auricular a medida que crecen. Sin embargo, se necesita más investigación.
Si alguien de tu familia tiene fibrilación auricular y te preocupa el riesgo de tenerla, habla con el proveedor de atención médica. La fibrilación auricular es una enfermedad grave que requiere un tratamiento adecuado para prevenir accidentes cerebrovasculares. El diagnóstico temprano puede ayudar a prevenir complicaciones. Es posible hacerse una prueba sencilla llamada electrocardiograma (ECG) para controlar el ritmo cardíaco. A veces, se usa un monitor cardíaco durante algunos días en el lugar de residencia.
Es posible que no puedas prevenir la fibrilación auricular familiar. Sin embargo, los cambios en el estilo de vida pueden ayudarte a mantener el corazón lo más sano posible. Prueba estas estrategias:
- Sigue una dieta saludable.
- Haz ejercicio de forma regular.
- No fumes.
- Controla tu peso.
- Limita el consumo de alcohol.
- Duerme entre 7 y 9 horas a diario.
