Brownsville Port of Entry CBP Officers Seize $102,179 in Narcotics at Brownsville & Matamoros International Bridge

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the B&M International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine and marijuana. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $102,179, hidden within a red 2000 Dodge Ram 1500.

“Every seizure is important to the security of our country regardless of the amount,” said Port Director Petra Horne, Brownsville Port of Entry. “These narcotics were intercepted by our officers who remain vigilant in the performance of their duties.”

The seizure took place on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Brownsville & Matamoros International Bridge when a 42-year-old male Mexican citizen, who resides in Brownsville, Texas, applied for entry into the United States driving a red 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. With the help of a non-intrusive imaging system which detected anomalies within the vehicle and a K-9 unit, CBP officers discovered a total of 61 packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 4.41 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in two packages and 69.97 pounds of alleged marijuana contained in 59 packages.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine and marijuana from the seizure is approximately $88,184 and $13,995 respectively.
CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver, and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
