PRESIDIO, Texas -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Presidio port of entry seized 28 pounds of crystal meth Wednesday morning. The street value of the drugs is nearly half a million dollars.
“This is a sizable amount of hard narcotics intercepted at this port, “said John Deputy, CBP Presidio Port Director. “CBP officers working at the Presidio port of entry continue to keep our communities and our youth safe from harmful drugs.”
The drug seizure was made at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when a 2007 Ford Lobo driven by a male Mexican citizen made entry. CBP officers utilized an x-ray system which revealed anomalies in the radiator area of the vehicle. An additional inspection by a narcotics dog resulted in an alert to the presence of narcotics. CBP officers removed 22 bundles hidden between the radiator and the transmission cooling system. A bundle was probed and field tested positive for the properties of methamphetamines.
The 25 year old driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations ICE agents to face federal prosecution for the failed smuggling attempt.
While anti-terrorism is the primary mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the inspection process at the ports of entry associated with this mission results in impressive numbers of enforcement actions in all categories.
