SAN DIEGO—This week U.S. Border Patrol agents working near the U.S./Mexico International Border arrested two men with sexual criminal histories.
The first event occurred around 5 a.m. on Jan. 3, 2018. Agents on all-terrain vehicles responded to activity near Tecate, Calif. After following footprints for several hundred yards, agents discovered a man tucked between two large boulders just north of the international boundary. After questioning him, agents determined he was a Nicaraguan national illegally present in the U.S.
The Nicaraguan was transported to a nearby station for processing. At the station, record checks revealed that the 38-year-old man had a previous conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age. He also had a prior deportation record.
The subject is being held in Department of Homeland Security custody in the Metropolitan Correctional Center pending Federal prosecution for re-entry after deportation.
A second event occurred on Jan 3, 2018, when a 24-year-old Honduran man turned himself over to Border Patrol agents near Otay Mesa, Calif. The man informed agents that he had entered the U.S. illegally in 2005 with his parents and wished to be returned to Honduras. However, a records check on the man showed that he was slated to appear in court in Los Angeles County on Jan. 4, 2018, to face charges of assault with a deadly weapon and sexual battery and was out on bail.
